The 224-page book, designed and produced by Marquand Books and distributed by Hudson Hills Press, traces Barbara’s earliest influences and education, the shift in her practice following Hurricane Iwa, and her work since that time, which has grown increasingly complex and ambitious. Barbara completed her largest work to-date, a mural for the three-story Adagio dining room that measures a remarkable 27 feet tall and 17.5 feet wide, and sixteen additional paintings measuring 4 feet tall by 10 feet wide.įollowing the success of this commission, Barbara began work on her first comprehensive book, Barbara Rogers: The Imperative of Beauty. In 2010, Barbara accepted a commission for Royal Caribbean International’s Allure of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship. In 2007, after numerous mentoring and teaching awards, Rogers retired and is now Professor Emeritus of Painting and Drawing in The School of Art at The University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. degree in Art Education from Ohio State University she received the Eisner Prize and her MA in Painting from the University of California at Berkeley.īarbara Rogers has been a faculty member or visiting artist at many major universities in the US and internationally, including the University of California, Berkeley the San Francisco Art Institute University of Chicago San Jose State University Cooper Union in NYC and finally at the University of Arizona.
Her work is in major public and private collections including The Frick Art Museum, University of Pittsburgh, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Crocker Museum (Sacramento, CA), The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, The Tucson Museum of Art, Arizona State University Museum of Art, The Oakland Museum of Art, and The San Jose Museum of Art.īarbara’s work has been reviewed in such major publications as The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Oakland Tribune, Seattle Times, Los Angles Times, Art News, Art Forum and Art in America.īarbara studied with Richard Diebenkorn and Elmer Bischoff at the San Francisco Art Institute.
